Description
YELLOW GOLD
Gold is naturally yellow in colour, but the addition of silver or copper enhances its natural warmth. Depending on the karat, the amount of pure gold in the jewellery varies. The higher the karat, the higher the purity, but the less durable the metal. The majority of yellow gold jewellery is therefore made of 14K or 18K gold. Yellow gold is also the most hypoallergenic of all gold types.
WHITE GOLD
To create the white-silver colour, yellow gold is combined with palladium and silver, or nickel, copper, and zinc. White gold must also be plated with platinum or rhodium to enhance its whiteness and durability, respectively. When the coating on white gold jewellery wears off, it may need to be re-plated with rhodium or platinum.
ROSE GOLD
Rose gold can range from red rose to pink gold in colour. To create the pink of rose gold colour, pure gold is combined with copper and silver. The greater the amount of copper added to the alloy, the darker the rose gold will become.
Rose gold does not require dipping or coating because the colour is inherent. It is not hypoallergenic, and to preserve its shine, it needs more polishing than other golds.
GOLD PURITY & CHART
24 karat gold, also known as pure gold or 24K gold, is extremely malleable and unsuitable for jewellery making. As a result, pure gold is alloyed with other metals, including silver (Ag), copper (Cu), and palladium (Pd), to make it durable and more suitable for making jewellery. Aside from strengthening the metal, alloying allows for the creation of coloured gold. White gold and rose gold are the most popular gold colours nowadays.
